Akkalkot Niwasi Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj is considered the third avatar of Lord Dattatreya after Shripad Shri Vallabha and Shri Narasimha Saraswati. Swami Samarth arrived in Akkalkot around 1856 and resided there for approximately 22 years before taking Samadhi in 1878. His teachings continue to guide millions of devotees across Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka.

The Math
Shri Swami Samarth Math, Betim, is constructed in accordance with traditional Vedic architectural principles known as Rekhi Shastra. The Math is built entirely using Black Jotiba Stone without the use of iron. The main murti of Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj is crafted using Navadhatu (nine sacred metals). Along with Shri Swami Samarth Maharaj, the Math also enshrines Shri Ganesh and Shri Durga Mata murtis made from Jotiba stone.
